Now that the universe shows its fury, calmly and carefreely.

THOUGHTS IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC (III)

By Guillermo Cides

I was right.
Now that death lives with us.
Now that the universe shows its fury, calmly and carefreely.
Now that Darwin exists.
Now, when life is worth what you get, and that’s it: I was right.
By living since my adolescence as if it were the last day. By sweating my body as if it were immortal. I was right to choose music because it had to do with the soul. Now that the democracy of death is finally here, I was right to not love money. By hugging the trees as I did these last few years, silently, ashamed but convinced. I was right to be grateful for being able to feed myself at every meal. Seeing the sky and knowing that it was not moving and that it was our land that was doing it. I was right to understand human fragility, the immensity of the stars, and the wonderful coincidence of life on a grain of sand called earth.
Tomorrow, when money does not heal, when power does not isolate, and when status does not count for breathing, then I will have been right to live my life as I have lived it.
I will survive, but before that, I will have lived.
